Understanding the culture behind biblical narratives will help you better understand and interpret God’s Word for application in your life.
The Backgrounds & Cultures of the Bible course features 13 mini-lessons over 13 weeks. Every week, you’ll gain access to a new video lecture of about 25 minutes, as well as printable slides from the lecture and associated notes pages. You’ll also have access to a small-group discussion guide for each lesson.

Your Instructor
DR. JOHN HOLMES
Dr. John Holmes holds degrees from Grace University(B.A.), Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M.), and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Ph.D.). He has been happily married to his wife Donna for 32 years with whom he enjoys a ministry of counseling young couples. They have two sons (Jesse and Micah) who are married.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO LEARN ON CMTI:
Personal Computer: You must have access to a computer with Windows 8/10 or Mac OS X to complete the course work. Linux OS based computers will function for most online content, but you may run into some restrictions when trying to view multimedia content.
Internet Service: High-speed internet service is recommended.
CMTI Learning Management System: This course will be administered online here at cmti.crown.edu. CMTI runs on a different platform than Canvas. If you have a Crown Canvas account, please note that this login and password are NOT linked, and changing the password on one does not change your password on the other.
Microsoft Office: Students must submit assignments in Microsoft Word or PDF format unless otherwise specified in order to be graded by Crown’s instructors.
